Five Day Private Landscape Photography Workshops
I have been teaching on location landscape photography workshops since 2009 with my primary focus being group workshops across Oregon, Washington and Colorado. In the past two years I have shifted my focus away from group workshops out of a desire to connect on a deeper level with students and to provide a greater depth of instruction than I am able to in a group setting. I currently offer five day private workshops anywhere in the US and ten day private photography workshops in Iceland. The cost of investment is a daily flat rate plus travel for workshops outside Oregon & Washington with a minimum of five days. Group Photography Workshops vs. Private Instruction
Group landscape photography workshops today are a dime a dozen. This is due to teaching workshops being the easiest revenue stream for nature photographers to tap into with almost no barrier to market entry. Instructors can maintain full time employment while teaching on weekends or during vacation time and can drive business through social media simply by sharing their work and putting themselves out there. The minimal effort required to start a workshop business has led to an explosion of photographers who teach, as well as unfortunate conflict, sabotage and slander between competing photographers.
In contrast, private instruction is far less lucrative for the instructor and requires the freedom to schedule trips any time of year without worrying about silly things like a nine to five getting in the way. I have been a full time photographer since 2017 when I punched a clock for the last time to be my own boss and I have never looked back.

Group Landscape Photography Workshops
A group on location photography workshop offers a collaborative, immersive experience where participants learn together in real world shooting environments. These workshops typically follow a structured agenda led by an instructor, with demonstrations, shooting sessions, and group critiques. One of the biggest advantages is exposure to different perspectives, seeing how other photographers approach the same scene can accelerate learning and spark creativity. Group workshops also tend to be more cost-effective and energizing, but individual attention is shared among participants, and the pace is designed to serve the group as a whole rather than any one person’s specific needs.
Private 1:1 Landscape Photography Workshops
Private 1:1 instruction, on the other hand, is fully customized to the individual photographer’s goals, skill level, and learning style. The instructor can focus entirely on your strengths, challenges, and interests, whether that’s mastering manual exposure, refining composition, improving editing workflow, or developing a personal style. Because the session is tailored and flexible, learning is often faster and more targeted, with immediate feedback and the ability to adjust direction on the fly. While private instruction is usually a higher individual investment, it offers a depth of personalization that’s ideal for photographers who are hungry to learn at an accelerated pace and achieve a deeper understanding of all areas of landscape photography.

The Who, What, When, Where and Why
The private photography workshops that I offer are for any skill level from beginner to advanced. There is no topic that is off the table and no questions too large or too small! I am completely self taught and have turned a simple passion for photography into a thriving business with collectors around the world that buy the art I produce as well as a large following of photographers, many of whom that I mentor in the business of photography as well.
With a five day minimum for my private workshops, we are ensured to have enough time to explore, learn and create a rewarding adventure tailored around your specific goals and needs. You won't have to worry about being rushed, misunderstood or neglected at any time. Think about your last group workshop and add up the total of quality instruction you received. No matter how good your teacher was, I'll bet it wasn't enough! This is simply the result of a guide having to spread themselves too thin in an effort to satisfy multiple peoples needs at once.
The private workshops that I offer can be any time of year, with total flexibility of location, duration and itinerary. We can go places that I am familiar with or places I have never been! For new locations, I am happy to do the required homework to determine best times and locations from beginning to end or to simply wing it and have a completely unscheduled adventure. It's completely up to you! For workshops in Oregon or Washington, there are no additional travel costs. For workshops outside Oregon & Washington, the cost of the fights will be your responsibility and we can travel together or separately, it's your choice.
Aside from shooting, I am happy to discuss my photography business in depth, share my post processing and print preparation knowledge, edit photos together or any other photography related topics that you're interested in.
If you'd like to join me in the states, in Iceland, or any other corner of the globe, let's talk about it! The sky is truly the limit! To learn more or discuss this opportunity in greater detail please feel free to reach out anytime and I'll see you in the field!
